Arborists, not loppers

There's a difference between cutting bits off a tree and knowing which bits to cut. As qualified arborists, we understand tree biology, so we never lop indiscriminately. We select which branches to trim or remove based on the tree's structure, health and future growth, which keeps trees safer and healthier for longer. When a tree does need to come down, we remove it safely with climbing arborists and the right rigging, whatever the size.

That knowledge shapes every service we offer: tree removal, pruning and canopy management, hedge cutting, stump grinding and removal, tree bracing and cabling for valuable trees worth saving, and stem injection for pest problems like elm leaf beetle.

Local knowledge you can't import

Fifteen-plus years working on the same region's trees teaches you things a manual can't: how coastal winds shape the cypress rows around Apollo Bay, which paddock gums are most likely to drop limbs after a wet winter, and how quickly elm leaf beetle can strip the historic elms in our district. That local knowledge means better advice, and often a cheaper answer, because the right prune now can save a removal later.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are you qualified arborists?

Yes. Colac Trees is an arborist-led team, and our work is guided by tree biology rather than just chainsaws. That matters most on pruning jobs, where the wrong cuts stress a tree and create the hazards you were trying to avoid, and on assessments of whether a tree needs removing at all.

  • Do you give free quotes?

Yes, every quote is obligation free. For straightforward jobs like a single stump or small prune, clear photos are often enough for an accurate price. Larger removals and anything near structures or powerlines get a site visit so we can quote properly and plan the safest approach.

  • Can I keep the firewood and mulch from my trees?

Of course. Tell us when we quote and we'll cut trunk wood to a manageable length and leave the chip where you want it. Our prices include removal, so if you don't want anything left behind we take the lot.

  • Do you handle emergency and storm work?

Yes. Fallen limbs and storm-damaged trees are part of the job in this region, and we prioritise anything that's dropped on a structure, a fence line or a driveway. Call us and we'll get to you as quickly as the schedule and safety allow.
