The trees we remove around Colac

Every district has its own problem trees, and ours are fairly predictable. The Cypress macrocarpa and radiata Pine shelterbelts planted decades ago on Western District farms are well past their useful life now, shedding limbs over fences, stock and machinery sheds. Big river red gums and blue gums sit close to houses on rural blocks around Lake Colac, Beeac and Cressy. In town it tends to be elms, conifers and liquidambars that have outgrown a small block and started lifting paths or finding their way into drains.

How we remove trees safely

There's no single way to take a tree down. The safe method depends on the tree's size, condition and what's underneath it, so we choose the approach on site, at quote time.

Tree Felling

We use this method when there is no obstruction around the tree, and it can be brought down safely in one piece. This practice works best in large open spaces like urban parks, open paddocks, and larger properties. Our qualified Arborists will be able to determine what is the best method to remove the tree safely when on site.

Tree Dismantling

In a more built-up area where felling isn’t possible,trees are dismantled in manageable segments. Ropes are tied to each segment enabling it to be safely lowered to the gound in a controlled manner. As the team at Colac Trees are qualified climbers which mneans that, where necassary, they can wear a safety harness and climb the tree to dismantle it piece by piece safely. If the tree is unsuitable to climb, we employ an elevated work platform(EVP) to aid in the tree removal. 

Straight felling

Where there's clear space around the tree, it can be brought down in one piece. This suits open paddocks, larger blocks and parkland, and it's the fastest and most economical method when the room exists.

Sectional dismantling

In built-up areas, near houses, sheds, fences or powerline clearances, the tree comes down piece by piece. Our climbers work through the canopy with ropes rigged to each section, lowering every limb to the ground in a controlled way. Nothing free-falls over anything that matters.

Tight and restricted access

Backyard trees with no machinery access are a normal week for us. We use elevated work platforms where they fit, climbers where they don't, and we carry or chip material out through whatever access exists.
